About the 275/60R15 size
L60-15 in the old code, and the tire restorers fit at the rear of the most famous staggered set in American motoring. The 1970 Challenger T/A and AAR Cuda left the factory on E60-15 front and G60-15 rear; a measured G60-15 is only 26.6 in tall, so 245/60R15 is the dimensional match and 275/60R15 is the wider modern rear most cars actually run. It is also the default rear tire for a street-driven big-block on 15x8 or 15x10 wheels. Needs 8 in of rim minimum, and on an E-body it needs the fender lip rolled. Coker sells bias G60-15 reproductions; the Mickey Thompson is the drag-look radial and is not a wet-weather or winter tire in any sense. Load index around 107 but check it, some drag-oriented models are rated well below a street tire.
The numbers mean: 275 mm section width, sidewall height 60 % of that width, and a 15-inch rim. Overall diameter works out to about 28 inches. Any replacement has to match all three, and the load index and speed rating on your door sticker must be met or exceeded. Our guide on reading a tire size walks through it.

Frequently asked questions
How much do 275/60R15 tires cost?
Expect $140–$170 per tire for a budget brand, $175–$235 for a mid-range tire like the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T, and $240–$360 for a premium tire like the BFGoodrich Radial T/A. Add roughly $15 to $45 per tire for mounting and balancing.
What vehicles use 275/60R15 tires?
275/60R15 is original equipment on Dodge Challenger T/A (1970, G60-15 rear), Buick GSX (1970-1971, G60-15 equivalent), Plymouth AAR Cuda (1970, G60-15 rear), Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 (1970-1972, rear upsize) and Ford Mustang (1979-1993, 15x8 rear fit), among others. Always confirm with the sticker inside your driver's door, because trim levels and wheel packages can change the size.
What is the best 275/60R15 tire?
For most drivers our mid-range pick, the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T, is the sweet spot of price and tread life. If you keep the vehicle a long time or drive in heavy rain and snow, the BFGoodrich Radial T/A is worth the extra. On a tight budget the Milestar Streetsteel is a sound choice.
Can I replace just one or two 275/60R15 tires?
On a front- or rear-wheel-drive car, yes: replace in pairs on the same axle and put the newer pair on the rear. On all-wheel-drive vehicles most makers want all four replaced together, or a new tire shaved to match, because a difference in circumference strains the drivetrain.
