How to get the lowest price
- Stack in three layers: pick a retailer instant discount or coupon code first (SimpleTire, Tires-easy, Discount Tire card offer), then file the manufacturer prepaid-card rebate on the same receipt, then pay with a store or Synchrony brand card (Continental/General +$90, Goodyear/Cooper doubles, Bridgestone/Firestone CFNA +$50-$100) - most brands explicitly allow all three.
- Manufacturer rebates need a set of four bought in one transaction from a participating dealer; warehouse clubs and mass merchandisers are usually excluded, which is why Costco and Sam's run their own instant savings instead.
- Photograph the itemized invoice and file the claim online the same day - virtual cards arrive in 3-5 weeks versus 6-10 weeks by mail, and every fall offer has a hard submission deadline (typically 10/30, 11/30 or 12/31).
- Buy online and ship free to an installer: Tire Rack, TireBuyer, SimpleTire and Tire Agent deliver to partner shops at no charge, and a $20-$30 per-tire mount/balance at an independent shop is often cheaper than the retailer's own package.
- On clearance or closeout sets, check the DOT date code (last four digits, week/year) before paying: anything older than 3-4 years should be discounted heavily, and most manufacturer warranties run from the DOT date, not the sale date.
- Credit-card category bonuses (5% rotating categories, Amex/Chase Offers for Tire Rack, Discount Tire or Pep Boys) and cash-back portals (3% at Tire Rack via Rakuten) stack on top of everything else because they are paid by the card, not the retailer.
- Prepaid rebate cards expire in about 6 months and cannot be used for cash, so spend them promptly - a good use is the installation or alignment bill for the same set.

How do tire rebates work?
You buy a set of four qualifying tires during the promotion window, then submit the receipt online or by mail within 30 to 60 days. The brand sends a prepaid Visa or Mastercard, typically $50 to $110, four to eight weeks later. Most retailers pre-fill the form for you at checkout.
Can I combine a retailer sale with a brand rebate?
Almost always. The retailer discount comes off the price at checkout, the brand rebate is paid afterwards by the manufacturer, and a brand credit-card bonus is a third layer on top. Read the fine print for warehouse clubs, which often run their own instant deals instead.
Are clearance tires a good deal?
Yes, if they are fresh. Check the DOT date code on the sidewall: tires older than three or four years at purchase have already used up part of their safe life, and some retailers sell them at a discount without saying so.
When is the next big tire sale?
The big windows are April, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, October and Black Friday. If you can wait a few weeks for one of those, you will nearly always save $50 or more on a set.
