The Yukon is GMC's full-size body-on-frame SUV, sold alongside the mechanically identical Chevrolet Tahoe and, in long-wheelbase form, as the Yukon XL. It seats up to eight, tows heavily, and ranges from workmanlike SLE trims to the near-Cadillac Denali Ultimate. The GMT900 was praised for refinement and V-8 fuel economy relative to its size, and criticized for a cheap-feeling interior. The 2015 K2XX fixed the cabin but kept the solid rear axle, which reviewers repeatedly held against it next to the Ford Expedition. The 2021 redesign with independent rear suspension was received as the biggest step forward in the model's history, with the available air suspension and the diesel inline-six singled out for praise. Persistent criticism concerns size, fuel consumption and Denali pricing that pushes into Escalade territory.

GM's reported Yukon figure includes the long-wheelbase Yukon XL from 2018 onward, and the combined total has grown from under 50,000 in 2017 to 92,390 in 2025.

Was it a success?

The Yukon is a high-margin success for GMC and the reason Denali became a brand in its own right. Resale is strong, particularly on Denali and diesel versions, because demand for big three-row SUVs consistently outstrips supply. Reliability is generally acceptable, with the main known issues being GM's cylinder deactivation systems on the 5.3-liter V-8, the 8L90 transmission on mid-decade trucks, and air-suspension repairs on the current generation.
