Infiniti is Nissan's premium brand, launched in the United States in 1989 alongside Lexus and now the smallest of the Japanese luxury marques here, selling somewhere under 60,000 vehicles a year. The lineup has narrowed to the QX50, QX55, QX60 and QX80, with the Q50 sedan as the last car. Its identity has always been the VQ and VR series engines and rear-drive chassis rather than Lexus-style refinement.

For tires that history means a lot of staggered rear-drive sedans still on the road.

Tires on a Infiniti

Infiniti stamps no approval code on its tires, so the placard specification is the whole requirement. The rear-drive sedans are the interesting part: a G35 coupe was staggered from the factory, and while the sedan we list runs 245/45R17 square, the Q50 on 19 inch wheels uses 245/40R19 and several sport trims add a wider rear. Because buyers often do not know which version they have, the placard inside the driver's door is the only reliable answer on any Infiniti sedan.

The crossovers are square and straightforward, a QX50 on 255/45R20. Wheel diameters have climbed the usual way, from 17 inch on a 2003 G35 to 19 and 20 inch across the current range, and the QX80 runs 22 inch wheels on upper trims. Original fitments are usually Bridgestone or Dunlop grand touring all-seasons, and because Infiniti tunes for a firmer ride than Lexus, owners replacing OE tires often move to a quieter touring tire and find the car improves rather than softens.

Sport trims with summer tires from the factory need a second set in any state with real winters.

The models that matter

The Q50 is the model most Infiniti owners are buying tires for, on 245/40R19. The QX50 runs 255/45R20 on Sensory trims. Among older cars the 2003 to 2006 G35 sedan takes 245/45R17, a size that is still cheap and widely stocked.

The QX60 and QX80 use large crossover and SUV sizes in the 20 to 22 inch range.

What owners find out later

Infiniti sport trims can be staggered while the base trim of the same model year is not, so ordering by model name rather than by placard is how people end up with four tires when they needed two pairs. Most Infinitis carry a compact spare only, and on 20 inch trims that spare is several inches smaller in diameter, which limits speed and distance more than owners expect. Direct TPMS sensors need a relearn after rotation on several models.

The 19 and 20 inch fitments have short sidewalls on a car tuned for a firm ride, and bent rims are a routine pothole outcome rather than an unusual one.
