Chevrolet tire sizes

We cover 67 Chevrolet models across 164 factory fitments, spanning model years 1955 to 2024. The size that turns up most often on a Chevrolet is 235/75R15, followed by 215/70R14 and 205/75R15. Wheel diameters run from 14 to 24 inches, so the trim and wheel package matter as much as the model year.

Chevrolet does not stamp an approval code on tires the way Porsche and BMW do, so any tire in the right size that meets the load index and speed rating on the door placard is a legitimate replacement. Pick on wet braking, tread life and price instead.

Chevrolet is General Motors' volume brand and sells roughly 1.8 million vehicles a year in the United States, behind only Ford and Toyota. The Silverado pickup and the Equinox and Traverse crossovers carry most of that, with the Corvette, Camaro, Tahoe and Suburban filling out the rest. For tires that breadth is the whole story: Chevrolet fitments run from a 185/60R14 Aveo to a 37 inch tire on a lifted 2500HD.

Tires on a Chevrolet

Chevrolet's original tires carry a General Motors TPC SPEC number molded into the sidewall, the GM original equipment marking listed in Wikipedia's tire code reference. Unlike BMW's star it is a specification number rather than a brand seal, and replacement tires almost never carry one, which is normal. In practice a Chevrolet tire decision starts with which of three worlds you are in.

Trucks and full-size SUVs run 17 to 22 inch wheels with wide choice, so a Silverado 1500 can be anywhere from 255/70R17 on a work truck to 275/50R22 on a High Country, and HD trucks move to LT-rated sizes such as LT275/65R20 that need 65 to 80 psi rather than the 35 psi a car takes. The Corvette is the exception to everything: staggered since the C4, running 245/35R19 front and 305/30R20 rear on the C8, and supplied on run-flats with no spare. Wheel sizes have crept up across every line, most visibly on trucks, where one Silverado trim walk now spans five wheel diameters.

Owners replace OE all-seasons with all-terrains far more often on trucks than in any other segment, and 33 and 35 inch upsizes are common enough that we list them as real fitments.

The models that matter

The Silverado 1500 is the volume model, on 255/70R17, 265/65R18, 275/60R20 or 275/50R22 depending on trim. Tahoe and Suburban share 265/65R18, 275/60R20 and 275/50R22. The Equinox runs 225/65R17, 225/60R18 or 235/50R19, the Traverse 255/65R18 or 255/55R20.

The Corvette C8 takes 245/35R19 front and 305/30R20 rear, and the electric Bolt used 215/50R17.

What owners find out later

Every Corvette since the C5 has come on run-flats with no spare and no jack, and the C8's staggered fitment cannot be rotated, so rears often need replacing at half the mileage of the fronts. On HD trucks the LT tires run pressures three times higher than a car's, and it is the door placard, not the tire's maximum, that you set. Upsizing a Silverado to 33 or 35 inch tires without recalibrating the speedometer leaves the odometer under-reading, which quietly stretches the service intervals.

GM's direct TPMS needs a relearn sequence after rotation on most models, and truck spares often have no sensor at all, so a system that goes quiet after a flat is usually behaving correctly.
