About the Mazda CX-5
The CX-5 is Mazda's compact crossover and its best-selling model, launched for 2013 as the first car built entirely around the company's Skyactiv engineering. It competes with the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 but is positioned as the driver's choice in the class, with a firmer chassis and more expensive interior materials. Tire buyers land here because the 225/55R19 fitment on Grand Touring and Signature trims is one of the highest-volume 19-inch sizes in the US.

Unveiled at the 2016 Los Angeles show, a heavily revised car on a similar platform with a much lower, wider grille, thinner headlights and a considerably quieter cabin. The Signature trim added quilted leather and a turbocharged engine. Sport and S trims run 225/65R17, Grand Touring and Signature 225/55R19.
What the press said
The CX-5 has had some of the most consistently positive reviews in the segment. Reviewers praise steering precision, body control and interior materials that reach into entry-luxury territory, and have repeatedly called it the best-driving compact crossover on sale. The criticisms are equally consistent: less cargo space and rear legroom than a CR-V or RAV4, no hybrid version for most of its life, and a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter that runs out of breath at highway speed. The turbocharged Signature answered the power complaint at a price.
Although not the most practical or feature-laden compact crossover, the CX-5 proves how much fun a small SUV can be to drive.

Was it a success?
The CX-5 is the commercial backbone of Mazda in America, typically accounting for around a third of the brand's US volume. Resale is strong, helped by a reputation for build quality and by the fact that Mazda discounts less than its rivals. Reliability is well above average, with no systemic engine or transmission problems across either generation; the usual gripes concern infotainment software and the cost of the larger OE tires.

Tire options on the Mazda CX-5
Fitments are 215/65R17 on early Sport trims, 225/65R17 on 2017-2024 Sport and S models, and 225/55R19 on Grand Touring and Signature versions. Nothing is staggered and no CX-5 uses run-flats, so all four tires match and rotation is normal. Original equipment has been Toyo A20, Yokohama Avid and Bridgestone Ecopia touring all-seasons; these wear quickly on a car that is driven harder than most crossovers, and a better touring or grand-touring tire is one of the most worthwhile upgrades you can make to a CX-5. The 225/55R19 is the size most owners buy and is well stocked in touring all-seasons and winter patterns alike. Towing is limited to 2,000 pounds, so load index is rarely the constraint.
