Who owns it
Privately held by the Halle family through The Reinalt-Thomas Corporation, the legal entity Bruce T. Halle started in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1960. Nothing is franchised; every store is company-owned. The chain trades as America's Tire in parts of California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, and the parent company bought Tire Rack in December 2021. Discount Tire Direct, the mail-order and home-delivery arm, was merged into Tire Rack in April 2024 and DiscountTireDirect.com has ceased operations. Forbes lists Dean Muglia as CEO and revenue of $10.1 billion.
What you can buy there
Stocks the major brands, Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Continental and Cooper among them, alongside cheaper value lines, and labels every tire Good, Better or Best on its own listings. Aftermarket wheels, TPMS parts and trailer tires are sold as well. There are no used tires, and the size range in any single store is narrower than the online catalog, which is why out-of-stock items are shipped in.
Shipping
Online orders on discounttire.com are shipped free to any Discount Tire store, where the fitting slot is booked in the same checkout; the site does not deliver tires to a home address. Home delivery moved to sister company Tire Rack when DiscountTireDirect.com closed in April 2024, and Tire Rack ships free on orders over $50, in some cases arriving the next business day, either to a home address or to one of its 10,000-plus recommended installers. Because the store network covers 40 states in the lower 48, Alaska and Hawaii have no store to ship to.
Installation
Fitting is done in the chain's own bays by its own technicians, so there is no partner network to coordinate. Tires bought there include free rotations, rebalancing, air checks and flat repair for as long as the tires are in use. Optional Certificates for Repair, Refund and Replacement cover non-repairable road hazard damage and qualifying manufacturer defects for three years from purchase, provided more than 3/32 inch of tread remains, and pay either a replacement tire or a full refund plus sales tax. Wheel alignment is offered at most, not all, stores at $89.99, or $199.99 for an electric vehicle, with a free alignment inspection.
Returns and warranty
The published policy sets no deadline: "There are no time limits for returns or exchanges," handled case by case with some wear and tear accepted, and the company reserves the right to decline. Returns are done in person, not by mail, so there is no return shipping to pay: bring the item, the receipt or order number, and the original form of payment to a store. Refunds go back to the original tender, with credit card refunds processed within 14 business days. Manufacturer defect claims are inspected at the store rather than shipped to the brand.
Where they sit on price
Rarely the cheapest sticker price online, but a Low Price Promise matches any competitor's advertised price, online or in store. Prices on discounttire.com are tied to the store selected, so the same tire can quote differently at another location, and mounting, balancing, TPMS parts and disposal are added at the counter rather than shown in the listed price. Certificates are charged as a per-tire line item with no advertised nationwide rate, which makes the out-the-door total hard to predict from the website.

What happened to Discount Tire Direct?
DiscountTireDirect.com has ceased operations. The online and home-delivery business was merged into Tire Rack, which the same parent company bought in December 2021, and the merger was announced in April 2024. Certificates bought through Discount Tire Direct are still honored at Discount Tire stores.
How long does shipping take and does it come to my house?

For home delivery you now use Tire Rack, which ships free on orders over $50 and can deliver as soon as the next business day.
